A New [NEW!] Huffy BMX and New Life for Mesquite Hugger on YouTube

Love me some big(ger) wheels!

Thanks, y'all - I have missed you too!

Okay, it's not like me, but I broke down and bought a new (really new) bicycle. I've wanted a plus-sized BMX for a while, and I have a bad habit of bringing Huffy bikes home. Those two stars aligned at a time when I had a little bit of money itching to be spent. I hopped on Huffy.com and five days later a new Huffy Symbol 26 arrived at my house.

We make fun...

It took about 20 minutes to put it together. And since that point I've been riding like a (really heavy, fearful, and creaky) 13-year-old! The neighborhood kids are extremely impressed with my mad bunny hopping skills and the guy who often sleeps near the skate park gave me a bleary thumbs up!

...you can sit on!

I even got so excited that I made a video about it and plopped it onto the very dusty YouTube Channel.

The Huffy received the Greg wave of approval!

Since the Huffy arrived, two other bikes left the herd and went to people who are appreciating and riding them more than I would (since always I'm always out practicing fakies on the big BMX). More people riding equals fewer people sitting around soaking in the news and biting their fingernails.

May your fingernails live unbitten and may you find joy is as easy as riding a bike!

Fossil-Free Friday: Bargain Electric BMX? Woohoo!

Yep, you read it right - electric BMX bikes are now hitting the market, and this very promising machine can (temporarily) be bought down in the Mesquite-Hugger price range - $600-700!

And it doesn't even look like an e-bike. Where's the 24 volt battery? (in the frame downtube) Where's the 250/350 watt motor? (in the rear wheel) Where's the 14/18 amp controller? (I have not figured that one out yet.)

A clean little machine! (another short video)

Avid brakes? Kenda tires? Samsung batteries? 35 pounds? Yes!

As cool as this thing is, I have not plopped my money down on the Indiegogo campaign. I fear this would be me:

Even so, it's a very cool e-bike! Now, if they'll just build me a big-boy version in the same price range...

May your green transportation get you off the gas and not make you look like a blue elephant!

PS. Thanks to electricbikereport.com for the heads-up on the EBMX!

Lubbock on a Bike: I am 2097th!

With apologies to my wife and co-workers who have had to endure my sweaty self...

The National Bike Challenge finished a few days ago. I finished 2097th out of 47,099 in the U.S. Woohoo!!
That's me back in 1978 - the last time I was involved in any competitive cycling events.

And I am very thankful to have been a part of it! What started as little more than a whim turned into a daily part of my life. And it did not involve spending lots of money - it actually saved a fair amount. It did let me know that I am happier on days when I ride. Work is better, home is better, there is more hope, and there is more resilience. I lost 14 pounds and I have a lot more stamina in getting around Thank you, League of American Bicyclists!

I rode every single day in September - who knew this out-of-shape old guy had it in him?

That's either me or Dark Helmet from Spaceballs.

Another thing the challenge did for me was serve as a reminder of how much I love bicycling and have for most of my life.

May you find your challenge to keep you moving, to make you and our world much healthier.
